Celebration of birth centenary of Bangabandhu begins in Istanbul


In line with the national and global celebrations, the Consulate General of Bangladesh in Istanbul has begun its year-long celebration of 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

On Tuesday, the programme started in Istanbul through hoisting of the national flag and placing floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Consulate premises.
In an interactive discussion, Consul General Mohammad Monirul Islam highlighted the unparalleled commitments and contributions of Bangabandhu in the evolution of sovereign independent Bangladesh in 1971.
He expressed that Bangabandhu was not only a leader of Bangladesh, he emerged as the voice of hope for the oppressed, discriminated and exploited people across the world.
Paying rich tribute to Bangabandhu, the Consul General outlined the activities undertaken for the yearlong celebrations in Istanbul, which include, among others, academic discussion/seminar, painting/photographic exhibitions, rally/roadshows, cultural events.
He voiced optimism that the celebration of this great leader in Istanbul would not only provide an opportunity to know about the glorious life and works of Bangabandhu but would also help to take Bangladesh-Turkey bilateral relations to a new height by enhancing the level of understanding and connectivity between the peoples of two countries.
